Life Skills Projects

IFM Daventry Ltd provide opportunities for adults with learning difficulties to learn whilst having fun.

During our day centre, we carry out a variety of different activities and projects, such as life skills. We do this in a range of ways whether it be a project they work on a computer, work together in groups to create something, or taking a trip out into the community to learn more.

One of our favourite life skills projects we have done is Healthy Living. Some individuals have taken a trip to the office each week to create a presentation all about the Eatwell Guide, nutrients and how to have a healthy lifestyle. As a group, we have had many food tasting sessions, discussing the food, what it does for your body and what other foods you can find it in. This has been such a success that we have been doing the food tasting for a year now! Some individuals have also been introduced to new and unknown foods, and have discovered new likes and dislikes through this project.  This is a project that has been thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Another example of life skills is during events such as Easter, Christmas and birthdays, where we develop on maths and money skills. Labelling up resources for the individuals to choose and buy for the project they are making, such as Easter bonnets. They then can add up the prices of the things they have chosen using the till, and then using their real money to buy the resources.
